Workshops

This session is intended for school board members—both veteran and newly elected or appointed—whose districts are using MASB’s Superintendent Evaluation Tool. During this engaging session, participants will delve into how to use the instrument effectively. Areas of focus include describing indicators of superintendent job performance and identifying possible artifacts and evidence, as well as having an opportunity to practice using the MASB Superintendent Evaluation Tool. In addition, participants will be led through the process of the compilation and presentation of the evaluation. This Tool-Specific Training session fulfills state training requirements. Held virtually on a monthly basis.

MASB’s experienced legal counsel provides board members and superintendents information regarding current school law, recent court decisions and Attorney General opinions. Typically offered in person around back-to-school time and in concert with the Annual Leadership Conference.

We hope you'll join us for this joint event packed with professional learning, networking and more. Held in the spring and fall both in a hybrid setup.

Your board's organizational meeting sets the tone for the year ahead. From establishing calendar dates, electing officers and other governance decisions, this meeting takes preparation and foresight. The Preparing for Your Organizational Meeting Workshop will ensure you're ready for an effective year!

Topics to be covered include: officer roles and responsibilities, as well as necessary skills for each; election of officers; building your board governance calendar; public participation management; seating new members and the oath of office; and more.

Held in a hybrid format in the fall.

The goal of MASB's Labor Relations Department is to provide high-quality labor relations services to Michigan's public schools without the high charges of profit-oriented firms. MASB's Labor Relations Department sponsors conferences, workshops and institutes that provide board members with timely information on pertinent labor relations topics. We also offer customized in-service programs that are designed to meet the specific needs of your district.
