School Boards That Matter, Larry Merrill

High achieving school boards focus on improving student achievement, reflecting the values of their communities, and positioning the board for proactive, generative leadership. In this engaging session with Larry Merrill, governance and strategic planning veteran, participants will explore governance structures and practices that elevate credibility and inspire boards of education to fulfill their essential purpose.

Larry Merrill has introduced high-level governance and strategic planning to a variety of not-for-profit organizations and public entities. His school governance expertise began with chairing Grand Ledge Public School’s Strategic Planning Committee that led to a successful infrastructure bond election after three failed attempts, and he served seven years on the Grand Ledge Public Schools Board of Education, including three years as President.  Larry was also President of the National Center for Small Communities, the National Association of Towns and Townships and other leadership positions including the Grand Ledge Education Foundation and other nonprofit entities.
