Register Today for Your 2024 MASB Legislative Priority Setting Meeting

Sep 18, 2024, 08:00 AM by Jennifer Smith, MASB Director of Government Relations

Legislative Priority Setting Meetings have been scheduled throughout the state over the next two months. These meetings will bring together board members, superintendents and MASB’s Government Relations staff to brainstorm on what your Association’s focus should be for the 2024-2025 legislative session.

The priorities created help guide the Government Relations staff as they advocate on our members’ behalf. Priorities in past years have included increased mental health supports in schools, implementing state programs to increase teacher recruitment and retention, expanding free meals to all students and protecting the School Aid Fund revenue streams from tax policy changes.

All events start at 7 p.m. ET (unless otherwise noted). Please join us and encourage your local colleagues—board members and superintendents alike—to participate in these important events. MASB’s legislative agenda is only as strong as the number of voices that create it. If you can’t attend the day of your region’s meeting, feel free to attend another one that is convenient for you.

We’ve already held our first one in Region 2. Once the meetings have all occurred, the ideas gathered will be put together and sent out in a survey to our members to rank what they determine to be the top priorities for their districts. The issues that rise to the top will be discussed and finalized with MASB’s Government Relations Committee and the final product will go before the Board of Directors at its January meeting. Once approved by the Board, they will be posted to our website, shared with our members and with the Legislature
