Preparing for the Delegate Assembly

Oct 1, 2024, 11:32 AM by Jennifer Smith, MASB Director of Government Relations

In a few weeks, school board members from across the state will be gathering to represent their district at MASB’s Delegate Assembly. This year, the Delegate Assembly will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 7:00 pm at the Lansing Center.

This meeting establishes policy and rules for the Association through resolutions and bylaws. These are used to provide direction to MASB, its officers and committees throughout the year. The Delegate Assembly Handbook was emailed to all members on Sept. 23rd and is available on our website. The Handbook includes the proposed changes to resolutions and bylaws, as well as the process for the Delegate Assembly. The Handbook should be reviewed by each voting delegate and their board to determine how the delegate should vote.

The MASB Resolutions and Bylaws Committee has put forth 11 amendments to current resolutions and two updates to the bylaws. It has also put forth one new resolution regarding suicide prevention and education. Each will be voted on at the Delegate Assembly.

While only the certified delegate(s) for a district (who must be finalized by Friday, Oct 4) vote on the motions, all attendees at the Delegate Assembly may join in the discussion about any of the proposed changes. If you are unsure who your delegates are or whether or not they are certified, please contact Cheryl Huffman.

MASB’s resolutions and bylaws are driven by you and the boards you represent. This night is your chance to get involved in the direction of your Association. If you have questions about the Delegate Assembly or the Handbook as you review it, please do not hesitate to contact us.
