Are your administrator contracts keeping up with the Joneses?

Jun 11, 2024, 12:00 AM by Daniel Feinberg, J.D., MASB Assistant Director of Labor Relations and Legal Services

Under section 380.1229 of the Revised School Code, school districts may employ assistant superintendents, principals, assistant principals, guidance directors, and other administrators as the board sees fit.  Many districts are in the last stages of approving, renewing, or extending contracts for their school administrators in preparation for the next year. A question that often comes up in reviewing the contracts before approving them is whether the district is providing the right level of compensation. Districts want to be competitive in the market -not over or under paying their employees, but figuring out the comparable districts to measure against can be challenging as that information is not readily available.

MASB - with your help - is working to change that.

Recently, MASB has expanded the functionality of its ERiN (Employment Relations Information Network) database to include information on administrator contracts. While the capacity is there, we need your help to collect the data. By uploading your superintendent and principal contracts into the database, you are helping provide a pool of information for all districts across the state. Districts will be able to compare key information on administrator contracts, salary, benefits and more. As a thank you for uploading your information, MASB will provide access to your district for the 2024-2025 school year, which will allow you to compare your administrator contracts as well as use this important resource in your next collective bargaining sessions.

If you have questions about ERiN, or need help uploading your data, please contact Liz Cooke.
