Staying Engaged With MASB Government Relations

Apr 19, 2023, 11:14 AM by Jennifer Smith, Director of Government Relations

The Michigan legislature has returned from spring break in full force, with quite a few bills relating to public education before them. The Government Relations team at MASB will be working hard to keep our members up to date on top legislative priorities, and we encourage you to stay engaged to be sure your voice is heard in the process. Our News from the Capitol email, sent on Fridays, is a quick look at all the updates from the week. Our Legislative Alert emails aim to provide a clearer understanding of specific, actionable items as they relate to policies and legislation that will directly impact K-12 public education in Michigan. These alerts are often highly time-sensitive and have been deemed among the most urgent legislative issues. Visit our VoterVoice page for more information and subscribe to these emails.

We’ve heard from a number of motivated members that they want to participate in advocacy work but aren’t receiving our alerts or News from the Capitol. We want to ensure that your voice is heard and that you are empowered to motivate legislative change. So...

If you are currently subscribed but are not seeing these emails in your inbox, below are two easy things you can do to increase your likelihood of receiving them. We have also made some changes to our systems to improve the probability of them reaching you. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Liz.

  1. Add any distribution list senders you always want to get messages from as a Contact in your email program. Unless messages look really phishy, Spam filters usually let known or saved contacts through.
  2. Monitor your junk folder once a week and move things that are legitimate emails out of junk mail, while deleting actual junk. Just like how sometimes hidden in your junk snail mail there might be something that looks like junk but is legitimate. These filters learn over time so unless you clean them out, they will never learn.
