In less than a month, school board members from almost every district in the state will be gathering to represent their district at the Delegate Assembly, which establishes policy and rules for the Association through resolutions and bylaws. These are used to provide direction to MASB, its officers and committees throughout the year. The annual Delegate Assembly takes place on Thursday evening prior to the official start of MASB’s Annual Leadership Conference.

This year, the Delegate Assembly will be held on Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lansing Center. The Delegate Assembly Handbook was emailed to all members on Oct. 6 and is available on our website. The handbook includes the proposed changes to resolutions and bylaws, as well as the process for the Delegate Assembly. The handbook should be reviewed by each voting delegate and his/her board to determine how the delegate should vote.

While the certified delegates for a district (which should have been finalized by Oct. 13) are the only ones who vote, all attendees at the Delegate Assembly can join in the discussion about any of the proposed changes. This is one way you can have a direct effect on your Association.

This night is your chance to get involved in the direction of your Association; the revisions to MASB’s resolutions and bylaws are driven by you and the boards you represent. If you have questions about the Delegate Assembly or the handbook as you review it, please do not hesitate to contact us.
