Statement From Executive Director Don Wotruba, CAE Regarding Effect of MDHHS Emergency Order on Schools

“While none of us want to be in this position, MASB fully supports the coordinated response that was announced today to combat the rising COVID-19 numbers in our state.

Public schools have had processes in place since late summer to limit community spread, but we recognize the effect of not being able to adequately staff schools as employees are either diagnosed with the virus or need to quarantine due to contact. We hope that reducing the number of employees and students in our buildings for three weeks will positively contribute to lowering the numbers in our state while still allowing our most vulnerable student populations to receive the face-to-face instruction that best meets their learning needs.

Our public school board members will continue to provide support to their districts through setting policy and other actions as needed to do what is best for all of the 1.5 million Michigan children in our schools as well as their surrounding communities.”
