Ad Hoc Committees - Procedures
|
In September, 2006, the MASB Board of Directors took action to generate more interest in participation by our members by eliminating "standing" committees on Communications & Advocacy, Education Issues, and Board Leadership & Training. Instead, the Board will be calling together a number of Ad Hoc Committees to focus on a particular topic. These Ad Hoc Committees will address an issue via one or two meetings, and then disband. We are hopful that this will allow more of our members to be involved in helping to govern the association. The following are the procedures for this process:
Generating Ideas for Task Force/Focus Group: 1. From board, 2. From staff, or 3. From MASB's membership (send an e-mail with your ideas to Erin Kinch) Screening of ideas for issues that must be: 1. Current/emerging issue 2. Relevant to a significant segment of the membership 3. Determine type of meeting a. Task Force: Actionable with a clear, measurable charge - there is something that can be done not just sharing info b. Focus Group: Gather information; generate ideas; gather feedback on a topic. Approval as an Ad Hoc Task Force or Focus Group: 1. From BOD (if timely), or 2. From Executive Committee (via conference call) Commitment from Members Participating: Number of meeting(s)/location/length of meeting time Conference call option for participation Expected Outcome Recommendation to the Board of Directors Evaluation of the time spent on the task force
If you are interested in being involved in an Ad Hoc Committee, watch for information in Headlines or on the web page for details.
