Four of MASB's new communication tools were recognized last week for outstanding achievement by marketing and communication professionals. The MarCom Awards is an international creative competition that received 6,500 submissions from throughout the United States, Canada and 15 other countries. LeaderBoard magazine took the top prize of a Platinum award; DashBoard received Gold; and the StoryBoard video newscast and OnBoard new member website were given Honorable Mentions.

Winners were selected from more than 200 categories in seven forms of media and communication efforts—marketing, publications, marketing/promotion, public service/pro bono, creativity and electronic/interactive.

Less than half of the entrants received an award. Platinums were presented to those entries judged to be among the most outstanding submissions in the competition receiving recognition for their excellence in terms of quality, creativity and resourcefulness. About 16 percent of the submissions won this award.

The Gold Award is presented to those entries judged to exceed the high standards of the industry norm; approximately 23 percent were Golds. Honorable Mention certificates are granted to those entries that meet the expectations of the judges with approximately 10 percent awarded this year.

MarCom entries come from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, PR firms, design shops, production companies and freelancers. The competition has grown to perhaps the largest of its kind in the world. A look at the winners shows a range in size from individual communicators to media conglomerates and Fortune 500 companies. The competition is so well respected in the industry that national public relations organizations, local ad clubs and local business communicator chapters are entrants.

MarCom Awards is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals. The international organization consists of several thousand creative professionals. The association oversees awards and recognition programs, provides judges and sets standards for excellence.

Judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry.
