It looks like we're in for a long night in Lansing as we prepare for negotiations on Race to the Top. Read on for details.
With both sides throwing their hands in the air early this morning, it seemed a deal was unreachable. But in a 2:30 press conference, Speaker Dillon pulled out his cell phone and asked Sen. Kuipers to “come back to the table.”
Key staff members have been sequestered in the governor’s office supposedly “hammering out difference.” I did notice that Speaker Dillon carried into the Capitol an overnight kit, so this could be a long night ahead.
Right now the main points of contention seem to be over cyber schools, charter schools and performance evaluations – allow me to stress that this is all hearsay and speculation. Don and I have been in the Capitol for most of the day, although I did run home to let the dog out and change into more comfortable shoes – ever try standing on marble all day in wing tips??
I brought back my laptop so I’ll try to keep readers posted as more develops in this ever slowing race to the top.

Re: Dysfunction Junction
As a member of the Mason School Board, please keep us informed. My son, Justin, is a "courier" for the Senate and is there right now working.

Re: Dysfunction Junction
It’s been several hours since I last updated you…we’re still in the same place. Nothing has been agreed on yet and at this point it doesn’t look as if we’ll get an agreement any time soon. I’m remaining optimistic that a deal will be reached…but I’m in a good mood because I just ordered Jimmy John’s and it should be here soon.
